Backsplash & tile
Backsplashes laid out before the first tile goes up
A great backsplash is mostly planning: centring the pattern on the range, deciding where cuts land, and finishing edges cleanly at the end of the counter.

Layout first
We dry-lay the tile, set the starting line from the counter and centre the pattern on the focal point — usually the range or sink window — so the cuts at the ends match. Outlets are extended so covers sit flush, and edges finish with a trim or a mitred return.
Backsplash styles
-
Subway and brick patterns
Classic and forgiving; works with stacked or offset joints.
-
Large-format and slab-look
Few grout lines, very calm, needs a flat wall.
-
Mosaic and herringbone
More detail, more cuts, more character.
-
Full-height
Tile from counter to ceiling or to the hood for a dramatic focal wall.
