Tile flooring

Tile floors set flat, with no lips and no hollow spots

Porcelain and ceramic floors for bathrooms, kitchens, entries and basements — with the prep that stops cracks before they start.

Tile is only as good as what is under it

Tile cracks when the floor beneath it flexes or moves. We check joist stiffness and subfloor thickness, add an uncoupling or crack-isolation membrane where it helps, and set large tiles with full mortar coverage and a levelling system so edges sit flush.

Heated floor mats go in under the tile and make a basement or bathroom floor comfortable all winter.

Choosing floor tile

Slip resistance
Matte or textured finishes for bathrooms and entries.
Size
Large tiles need a flatter floor; small tiles follow slopes better.
Grout
Darker or stain-resistant grouts stay looking clean in kitchens and entries.

Comparing flooring materials

A quick guide to how the common options behave. The right answer depends on the room, the subfloor and how you live.
