Hamilton’s housing covers a lot of ground: brick homes built well before the war in the lower city, post-war bungalows and split-levels on the Mountain, and newer subdivisions toward the edges of the city. Do I need a permit for a basement apartment in Hamilton?
Creating a second unit generally requires a building permit and inspections. Requirements are set by the City and the Ontario Building Code and can change, so we confirm what applies to your property before work starts.
Can you add a walk-out entrance to an older Hamilton home?
